Jamaica has a rich and diverse population blended from a variety of cultures and nationalities, reflected in the Jamaican motto: "Out of Many, One People". Nearly every race and culture is represented here. This ethnic delight is apparent in the various cuisines and plant life: Christopher Columbus and the Spaniards left their influence – hence – Stew Peas and Rice, the English left the 4:00 p.m. tea, the Chinese left various vegetarian stir fried dishes, the Indians left their curries and the Africans left their yams and medicinal remedies.

These foods coupled with our many versions of music include Mento, Rock Steady and Ska making Jamaica unique from a global stand point as these influences are recognized worldwide today as Reggae – the musical style that is Jamaica’s signature music!
